Missing overnight, body found in sewer: mysterious death of 59-year-old man in Panihati

A mysterious death has created tension in Panihati after the body of a 59-year-old man, who had been missing since the previous night, was found in a sewer on Sunday morning. The deceased has been identified as Subhash Bakshi, a resident of the area. According to police sources, Bakshi had been working at the function house throughout the day. After completing his duties, he reportedly left the place around midnight, telling people nearby that he was stepping out to watch a game. However, he did not return home and no trace of him was found throughout the night.

The situation took a tragic turn the following morning when locals discovered his body inside a sewer in the area. Residents immediately informed the Ghola police station, following which police personnel rushed to the spot. With the help of locals, the body was recovered and later sent for post-mortem examination.

Police said the exact cause of death remains unclear. Investigators are trying to determine whether Bakshi accidentally fell into the drain and sustained fatal injuries or if there was any other reason behind the death. A local resident, Joy Chakraborty, said Bakshi had been managing the event work normally throughout the day before leaving at night, adding that everyone is now waiting for the police investigation and autopsy report to reveal what happened.
